ZaNorte provincial government holds Children’s Congress Print E-mail

In connection of the 15th National Children’s Month, the provincial government of Zamboanga del Norte has initiated a Children’s Congress held at the ZN Convention & Exhibition Center, Tuesday, October 24.

The said activity was participated by 25 municipalities represented by Municipal Social Workers, Day Care Workers and Day Care pre-schoolers who joined different contests during the one-day event.

With the theme, Bright Child: Karapatan Nasa ‘yo, Isigaw mo sa Buong Mundo is this year’s program drive based on the Presidential Proclamation 267 which anchored by various programs especially promoting the rights and welfare of children. This so called Bright Child program which spearhead by the National Council for the Welfare of Children is also aiming the immediate promotion of children’s right to live happily with a family, be given proper nutrition and education.

Ms. Grace Marylen Sabal, OIC of the Provincial Social Welfare & Development Office pointed out that her office has implemented the good programs religiously through the unending support of its multi-awarded Gov. Rolando Yebes by giving scholarship program, educational assistance and skills training to out of school youths in the entire province.

The different competitions of the said congress has made the occasion a huge a success participated by the municipalities from first to third districts such as Draw and Tell, Singing and Cultural Dance Competitions. Because of these talents, skills and abilities of children including their self-reliance and self-confidence has been developed during the series of competitions.

Winners of the three categories also received P2, 000 pesos for the champion plus trophy and certificate, P1, 500 pesos, a trophy and a certificate for the second prize and P1, 000 pesos cash, trophy and certificate for the third prize winners. The non-winning participants have taken P200 pesos cash as consolation prizes.

Meanwhile, Hon. Luzminda Torrino, chairperson-Committee on Women, Children and Family Affairs and representing Gov. Yebes stressed out that parents play a vital role in rearing their children by giving them proper understanding of their rights, teach them how to share something to other kids and guide them in improving their talents and skills.

It was also learned that the winners of the competitions will represent the province to the upcoming Regional Children’s Congress to be held in Zamboanga City come October 30, Tuesday.

The congress ended with the awarding of prizes, trophies and certificates to the lucky winners formally handed by Ms. Sabal and Hon. Torrino.
